At a glance, Lexus Safety System Plus 2.0 consists of six active safety and driver assistance systems:

  • Pre-Collision System with Daytime/Low-Light Vehicle and Pedestrian Detection, plus Daytime Bicyclist Detection
  • Dynamic Radar Cruise Control with All-Speed Range
  • Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist
  • Intelligent High Beams
  • Road Sign Assist
  • Lane Tracing Assist

Road Sign Assist

Road Sign Assist is designed to gather information from traffic signs and display them on the vehicle’s MultiInformation Display (MID) or the available Head Up Display (HUD). The system can read Speed Limit, Stop, Yield and Do Not Enter signs. While a speed limit sign is displayed, the system will even notify the driver if the vehicle exceeds the posted speed limit.

Pre-Collision System

The Pre-Collision System uses combined camera and radar technology to help mitigate or avoid a frontal collision. If the system determines a high risk of a frontal collision with another vehicle, it will relay audible and visual alerts to prompt the driver to take evasive action. If the driver notices the hazard and brakes, the system may use Brake Assist to provide additional braking force. If the driver does not brake in a set time, the system may automatically apply the brakes to avoid or mitigate the impact.

With Lexus Safety System Plus 2.0, the Pre-Collision System has been enhanced with the ability to detect a bicyclist in daytime situations, as well as pedestrians in both daytime and low-light situations.

All-Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control

Dynamic Radar Cruise Control uses combined camera and radar technology to identify vehicles on the road ahead, then automatically adjusts the vehicle’s speed to help maintain a pre-set following distance from the vehicle ahead.

All-Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control is designed to allow low-speed following, speed matching, stopping and acceleration/deceleration to a preceding vehicle.

Lane Departure Alert

Lane Departure Alert uses a forward-facing camera to monitor lane markings to detect lane departure when traveling on relatively straight roads. Once the system determines that the vehicle has begun to drift from its lane unintentionally, it alerts the driver with audible and visual alerts and steering wheel vibration.

Intelligent High Beams

The Intelligent High Beams feature works in low-light conditions to provide the best view of the road without casting a glare at other drivers. The system uses an in-vehicle camera to detect headlights and taillights of vehicles on the road ahead, then automatically toggles between high and low beams accordingly.

Lane Tracing Assist

Lane Tracing Assist uses a forward-facing camera to monitor lane markings and makes constant steering inputs to help keep the vehicle centered in its lane. The system requires the driver’s hands to remain on the steering wheel to operate.
